Enmeshed is a sculptural installation, a poiesis, of two systems entangled. One, an organic system represented by wild grapevine, the other, a manmade system, that is represented by fabric wrapped coils made from manufactured items. Grapevine depletes its tree host through constriction, while similarly, industrially made materials also drain resources from the environment over time. Neither the grapevine nor the manufactured items are necessarily destructive in and of themselves, but they become so through an accumulation, growing into something increasingly unruly and burdensome. It is under that weight that they lay waste to the resources that have provided for their very being. The effects farther reaching than their physical presence, repercussions of these systems are echoed through shadowy boundaries, creating a psychological landscape that reflects on a nest environment and our changing relationship within it.
